"Keeping The Fountain Flowing:
Self-Care That Sustains Us In Service"

A retreat with Dan Keusal, M.S., LMFT
For the Alliance of Dental Hygiene Practitioners
Leavenworth, WA
Saturday, August 25, 2012

“I wake up in the morning torn between my desire to fix the world
and my desire to enjoy the world.
This makes it difficult to plan my day.”
~ E.B. White

Those of us dedicated to serving others often find it difficult to balance the needs of those we serve with our own self care. We begin with the best of intentions, touched by the suffering of others and energized by a sense of mission, purpose, and justice. Then we wake up one day to find ourselves worn down, discouraged, and burned out from attending to a world that remains thirsty long after our own fountain has run dry.

Drawing on psychology, film, music, poetry, and other sources of wisdom, this workshop will explore attitudes and practices that hold the power to renew and sustain us. We’ll come to see time spent on self-care not as something that takes away from our service, but rather as its source. Along the way, we’ll learn how to keep the fountains of our lives filled and flowing, spilling over in ways that enrich the lives of those we serve.

Date: Saturday, August 25, 2012
